Partly Facetious: the macro bubble will burst
"The Chosen One hath spoken again."
"What about this time?"
"Economics, his designated subject. I mean you have to give the guy credit: he rarely if ever deviates from the subject allotted to him."
"He will go far."
"He has gone as far as he could go if you know what I mean. It's all downhill from here on."
"Yes I guess. Not right to reach so high so quick."
"Well, the height is only as tall as he is...any higher aspirations and he will come tumbling down."
"Anyway, he has spoken and directed the bureaucrats to translate the macro economic gains into micro gains in an effort to eradicate poverty."
"Poverty is not within the realm of micro economics."
"Well, no, it isn't but you know as a politician he can take some liberties with economic theory and..."
"Poverty is a function of macro economic policies. Good macro policies will deal with poverty as well."
"I agree but what he probably was implying is that now that the economic fundamentals are positive why not transfer some wealth to the poor."
"Very big of him. But talking of good macro policies what macro economic gains is he referring to?"
"Well, the rate of inflation is high. He has over-heated the economy by borrowing from abroad to build infrastructure."
"And what about the rate of unemployment?"
"That too is no great shakes though I wouldn't believe the official statistics on that. I mean at best they can calculate the unemployment in urban centres though frankly that seems doubtful as well."
"Industrial output is up right?"
"Yes but the trade balance is in deficit because of high oil prices."
"But the growth rate is up."
"Fuelled by foreign borrowing which may dry up as soon as America loses interest in us."
"Ah yes, must keep Osama safe then."
"That topic is not within the jurisdiction of the allotted topics."
"Yes. So what is good about the macro economy?"
"Well, that's a tough one. We are getting funding courtesy the US but for how long?"
"A bubble again, you reckon."
"Absolutely and a bubble as we have learnt always bursts sooner or later."
